Our story begins with a bet amongst friends, could you explore 1001 beers in a year? Three beers a day, seems reasonable enough. It was along the way to the completion of this wager that founders Jim MacDonald and Rob Pingitore crossed paths, sparking the idea of Bar Hop as you enjoy it today! 

Circa 2012 and one of the first on the now booming craft beer scene, Bar Hop is the destination that friends tell friends about, where you can enjoy high quality beverages with a mouthwatering food menu that meets its match in a cozy, casual setting! 

Our focus is on curating a slice of heaven for beer geeks and new explorers alike, through our weekly rotating list of local Ontario craft beers and ciders. 

Our beer and cider program is carefully curated based on what is fresh, seasonal and what we’ve got pouring at the time. Our expansive tap list often includes unique one-off or artisanal brews that are hard to find anywhere else. And if beer or cider are not your thing, we invite you to indulge in our handcrafted feature cocktails, natural wines or our top shelf whiskey, bourbon, tequila, scotch and other spirits.

In 2015 our Bar Hop journey took us around the corner to 137 Peter Street, where we opened our 2nd location, a 3 storey space that featured a micro brewery and a popular summer-time rooftop patio. In 2018 our 3rd location opened on the Danforth, serving up all of the Bar Hop specialties to the east-end Greektown neighbourhood.

However, in 2020 things would forever change for Bar Hop and our thriving business. Since the onset of the pandemic, we have been hopeful to see things return to the good ole’ days. The last 4+ years have been difficult with a slow recovery for restaurants, increased costs, changes in peoples’ lifestyle and behaviours, and the feeling by most people that there is “a lot less to go around.” We were optimistic that we could keep providing Bar Hop’s brand of good times from multiple locations, however we realized that sometimes good things must come to an end. Bar Hop Session (Danforth) closed its doors in October 2023, and Bar Hop Brewco (Peter St) closed its doors in January 2025.

With a renewed focus, our original Bar Hop at 391 King St West is alive and kicking, and proudly offers a little something special for everyone. Whether you are new to the craft beer scene or consider yourself a veteran, we promise the perfect complement of selection for drinkers of all tastes. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you pick the perfect pour if you have trouble deciding, or perhaps you want to sample them all!
